It's been 6 years now since that reflection from our High School valedictorian was created. Until now, the iceberg still has not changed. Its whole body is still immersed in the vastness of the liquid ocean. The whole of it is still unknown.
People create New Year resolutions just to reach a certain goal in life. They do this to expect too much from themselves. While resolutions are not bad at all, I don't recommend everyone to have one, especially to persons who expect too much from their selves and their "luck" and "fortune". Pessimism aside, you can't change a certain phenomena overnight. I'll oppose to the philosophy that is being distributed by Rhgonda Bryne. Not everything that we really wish to happen will be fulfilled to reality. We do not make resolutions just because a new year has ended and we have to follow a fad like a standard operating procedure from a military officer. Resolutions must come from the heart and can be made at any time of year, not just in January.
I know of another friend who lives every moment as it is. She does not make long-term goals. She is a proper example of that line in Sunscreen Song:
"Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your
life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
olds I know still don’t."
