Things Aren't Always What You Expect Them To Be
By: Joseph Peter Capaque
Our Valedictorian in High School gave this powerful thought in one of her essays:
"I am an Iceberg. 10 percent of me is only all that you can see. 90 percent of me is submerged in water"
That illustration squeezed my imagination out of me. The statement is unmistakenly correct. We tend to see people by the impression they leave upon us day by day. On every encounter, we keep our observations in the data bank at the back of our minds.
Everyday, we put labels upon every person we interact. Mr Scrooge is the pathetic one. Maria is the responsible one. Clinton has the tendency to bully. Gre is the smart but lazy person. We unconsciously brand every person by our personal experiences. We are set to believe what we have seen. We stick to stand on one angle only: OURS.
But unknown to us, like the iceberg, we only see 10 percent of the individual. 90 percent of the person remains unseen. This speaks out that we should never claim to know a person fully because we knew him for 5 years or so. Even if you swim down the ocean to see the totality of the iceberg, you have just viewed the surface. You still have not seen the inside.
Carla and Banjo maybe sweet to each other during the courtship stage. Carla may see Banjo as the sweet one because Banjo would always give her chocolates every week. Banjo may see her as the archetype of Mother Theresa because She goes to church everyday and she never curses. They might be tagged as the perfect couple made in heaven. A genuine love story does not end that romantically though. Another catalyst enters into the scene in a form of a ritual called wedding. Five years later, Banjo will realize that Carla hid skeletons in her closet. Carla will find out that Banjo can't afford to buy roses everyday. Things aren't always what you expect them to be. On the surface, all may seem smooth. It may seem that all things will be alright.
We may invest millions in an insurance company to cling to a bright future. We work hard expecting more monetary rewards in return. We tend to an infant wishing that the cute one will grow to be a good man. However, things are not always what you expect them to be. On the surface, all may seem smooth. It may seem that all things will be alright.

true ma..I have also written often about this thing..its in our innate nature to level people, we forget that human is human nobody knows when someone would come up with something that you would never expect from her/him. This example of iceberg fits right in this situation.
I like your writings, have tagged your blog's link in my blog. Hope you don't mind it..do keep writing :)
